Dean of Students' Message

I am excited to begin my first year as Dean of Students at Ferriday High School.

One of my favorite things about Ferriday  is the traditions and the family culture. I love that I have had the opportunity to build relationships with our families and know our students by name. I am excited about the potential that each and every one of our students has and about the opportunities that we offer to those same students.

As the demands of teaching children increase, it becomes more evident that we all need to work together to ensure that our children reach their fullest potential. I believe that all of us- the school and the community- must work together as an extended family to ensure success for all our students. It is our responsibility to empower our students with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary for them to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally successful.

I am a firm believer that children do not care what you know until they know that you care.  I have the unique opportunity to have taught or interacted with most of this student population from middle school until now, and that opportunity has allowed me to foster relationships with students and parents.  It is those relationships that will push us through a successful school year.

This year is about growth and change, and I look forward to seeing the pride and traditions of Ferriday High School, not only restored, but also amplified.  Welcome to Ferriday High School, where we cannot hide that Trojan Pride!

When we say that there is nothing bigger than the  “F”, we mean that there is nothing greater than our fidelity to fostering a fair and fun foundation for our students.

Educationally Yours,

Ms. Iyna S. Barnes
