One of my responsibilities as Vice-Principal is to keep track of student attendance.
Why must we keep record of attendance?

  • required by law

  • student safety - students know that their parents will be notified

  • 10% of School Performance Score in 2001 will be determined by Attendance
Because of attendance laws, students must be present 80 days per semester.

  • In a l/2 unit course this means that no more than 8 days can be missed and receive credit.

  • In a 1 unit course this means that no more than 16 days can be missed and receive credit.
Students who bring accepted documentation will not have those days counted against them.  This documentation consists of

  • doctor's excuses on letterhead an organization's letterhead saying that you attended their function

  • funeral of family member--must present documentation and

  • homebound students--documentation of entry and release period.
